Portland Community Partnership - Objectives

Planned Objectives and Projects

The following is a list of projects and aims which the Portland Community Partnership will pursue during the year. They are assessed as being supportive of strategic objectives but also measurable and intended to underpin a change agenda to secure future opportunities that benefit the Island with and in support of the community. It is recognised that some may require further short-term measures as funding opportunities develop.

Specifically

  1. Work with Portland Port and other partners to secure an acceptable route and access improvements to enable what is commonly known as the ‘missing link' section.
  2. Work with partners to address socio-economic deprivation issues in areas of Portland which are causing concern.
  3. Undertake communications with residents of the Island to gauge and understand current strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats that may face the Island now and in the medium term.
  4. Support the creation of information and support hubs in appropriate locations with partners and ensure that any such locations network to one another and with external providers.
  5. Provide development support towards improving the viability of our local and neighbourhood centres.
  6. Support the Portland Economic Vision Board in delivering its objectives for economic growth and more sustainable jobs on the Island.

Generally

  • Work to ensure that other development organisations such as the Community Land Trust are best placed to take forward their own objectives.

  • Through social media and other mediums try to ensure the Community is fully informed of developments and proposals that relate to the Island and wider community.

Town Council Objectives

The Town Council have set out a series of objectives and where relevant and it is felt that these align with ours, we will ensure that proposals are communicated to the Council.

  1. Improve health and well-being of residents by using our own resources and by supporting and working with DC, NHS and voluntary bodies.
  2. Respond to the climate emergency by lowering the council’s own carbon footprint and by lobbying and supporting other organisations to lower their carbon footprint.
  3. Promote sustainable economic development on the Island.
  4. Work with voluntary bodies and Dorset Council to safeguard and enhance the heritage assets of the Island.
  5. Engage in and support the development of cultural, recreational and leisure facilities available on the Island.
  6. Being a well-run Council.
